List of Positions

Ph.D. Student

Recommendation:

Experience in HCI or related field, particularly in designing and engineering interactive hardware, is required. We don't encourage applying if your skills are only in software engineering (pure Computer Science). 


Paper publication in HCI domains, or equivalent experiences are especially valued. 

Requirement / Ideal Backgrounds:

Bachelor/undergrad degree or master's degree (or equivalent experience) in relevant domains [not necessarily in Computer Science].

Master's (Pre-doctoral) Student [Computer Science]

Recommendation:

Focused/extensive experience in HCI is NOT required, but strong passion for and interest in inventing / researching interactive systems are required. Some experience in designing and developing interactive systems is ideal.

Requirement / Ideal Backgrounds:

Bachelor/undergrad degree (or equivalent experience) in relevant domains [not necessarily in Computer Science].

There are two separate deadlines: [1] Mid-January, [2] Early April

Master's Student [Digital Culture]

Recommendation:

Focused/extensive experience in HCI is NOT required, but strong passion for and interest in inventing / researching interactive systems are required. Some experience in designing and developing interactive systems is ideal. (Compared to CS pre-doctoral master's, this program may be better for students with relatively less-CS background - e.g. more Art/History, but AxLab requires some hands-on engineering experience.)

Requirement / Ideal Backgrounds:

Bachelor/undergrad degree (or equivalent experience) in relevant domains.

There are two separate deadlines: [1] January, [2] April

Deadline:

New 2 years Research Oriented Program in 2024

Note:

Undergraduate Student

Recommendation:

Experiences (classes, etc) in software and/or hardware engineering would make you competitive. Also bring your passion, creativity, and curiosity!

Requirement / Ideal Backgrounds:

Be enrolled as UChicago undergrad. (Year of study & major do not matter.)
